Almeta McIntosh

Almeta McIntosh was born on May 13, 1939, in Wren Mississippi, to the late John Archie McIntosh and Melvora Miller McIntosh. She was one of nine children born to this union and at the time of her passing was the last surviving sibling in her family.  On August 26, 2026, God called his beloved daughter from labor to eternal rest at the age of 87.

     She graduated from the Monroe Training Academy in Amory Mississippi in 1958. At the age of 19 she moved to East St. Louis, IL.  In 1960 she migrated to Chicago, IL where she would establish her home, raise her family, and leave an indelible mark on everyone blessed to know her.

Almeta was a born-again Christian and a long-time member of Original Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church.  She later joined Nehemiah Urban Church Ministries and was consecrated Mother Almeta McIntosh in 2010 under the leadership of Bishop Rory R. Marshall Sr.

She lived a simple life, but the impact of her existence in this world, although unknown to most, has been immeasurable.  Almeta loved her family and was very invested in ensuring they live productive and successful lives.  She had a loving and caring spirit that typically resulted in her being in positions of caring for others, both in the workforce and in her personal life.  She was also an excellent award-winning cook, who was featured in the Chicago Sun Times newspaper for her Cornbread recipe.  Almeta lived an active and engaging life and was genuinely a fun person to be around.

   Almeta was proceeded in death by her parents, John Archie and Melvora McIntosh; son Johnnie McIntosh; Grandson Gerald T. Washington Jr. Siblings; Joe Lee McIntosh (late Ruth), Thomas McIntosh, Calvin McIntosh (late Alma Jean), James Oliver “Harry” McIntosh, Elise Lloyd (late Aljernon), James “Tig” McIntosh, Johnnie White (late Tommie Lee), and Charles McIntosh (late Geraldine).

She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter-in-law; Sherlene (Johnnie deceased) McIntosh Mitchellville MD, Children; Ronald(Mary) McIntosh - Albuquerque NM, Carey McIntosh - Chicago IL, Gary (Crystal) McIntosh - Centreville VA, Janella McIntosh - Schaumburg IL, Charice Hinton - Highwood IL, Derrick L. (Shana) McIntosh - Steiger IL, Grandchildren; Jason A. Jones, Matthew E. McIntosh, Jeron (Kelcee) McIntosh, Brittany McIntosh, Sidney McIntosh, Derreck L. (Niteria) McIntosh, Darius (Qiana) McIntosh, Joseph McIntosh, Anaya McIntosh, Janeese E. (Robert) Laster, Clarissa A. Washington, Gerald T. Washington III, Andrew L. Washington, Demarea McIntosh, Shania McIntosh, Great-grand Children; Terry Calhoun III, Maliyah Calhoun, Alayah McIntosh, Javon McIntosh, Ayonah McIntosh, Alexis McIntosh, Alani McIntosh,  Mosiah M. Laster, Naomi S. Laster, Noah M. Laster, Massimo V. Paoletti, Ronald M. Shelton III, Raina M. Shelton, Bonus son: William Dennis Hinton, Best friend: Betty Betts and  host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

There will be a homegoing celebration at Original Philadelphia M.B. Church, 6558 South Carpenter Street Chicago, Illinois 60621, where visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Rory R. Marshall to officiate.

Rest well, Mother Almeta. Your work on earth is complete. Your faith has become sight.
