Andrew Olsen Dun, 61, passed peacefully in the hospital surrounded by his family on October 14, 2023. He was born to the late Rev. Angus Dun, Jr. and Meryl Olsen Dun on July 9, 1962 in Sharon, Connecticut. He graduated from The Branson School, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. At UC Berkeley, he was President of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and studied history. During his time in business school he specialized in finance/marketing and co-directed the school’s annual musical.
Andrew married Carolyn Babcock on October 7, 1989 at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, IL. Together they moved to St. Louis, where he started his career in sales and marketing at Ralston Purina. He later pursued his passion for business development and sales at Darden Restaurants, Tetra Pak, Inc., Insight Beverages, Inc., ProAmpac LLC, Bulk Lift International, LLC, finishing as President at Amerisafe Group. He was often recognized for his talent in the workplace, receiving the Red Lobster President’s Award for Excellence and an appointment as industry representative to the MilkPEP board while at TetraPak. Andrew was known by his colleagues as a dedicated, strategic, passionate, and reliable professional.
He was a natural-born leader with a heart for service. His children attended Christian Heritage Academy in Northfield, IL, where he became Board President and was instrumental in founding the high school. He was also a devoted member of Christ Church Lake Forest, where he served as a deacon and Chairman of the Elder Board. Those who served with him admired his commitment to helping others and the attention to detail he brought to everything he did.
Andrew was a man of many hobbies and was a life-long learner. He regularly attended the Willow Creek Community Church Leadership Summit, completed a post-masters seminar in business from the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland, received a certification from OSHA while at Amerisafe group, and completed the Gotham Fellowship course at Christ Church. He loved to ski, regularly traveling to the mountains to ski with his friends and family. Andrew was always the expert on snow conditions wherever he traveled. He was also an avid cyclist who won the Gold Spokes award for the Tour de Farms MS Fundraiser. Andrew’s family and friends often benefited from his passion and talent for cooking.
Survivors include his wife Carolyn of 34 years; daughter Lindsay (Nathan) Guaglianone of Sandy, UT; son Drew (Katie) Dun of Chicago, IL; sister Peggy (Virgil) Haney of Houston, TX; brother Calvert Dun of Boston, MA; As well as many dear extended family members. Andrew was a loving husband and father who invested greatly in his family and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Christian Heritage Academy, 315 Waukegan Rd, Northfield, IL or MD Anderson Cancer Center Donations and Fundraising. Because Andrew was an organ donor, his corneas will help two people to have sight.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Church Lake Forest 100 N Waukegan Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045. A reception will follow immediately after service in the foyer of Christ Church. A private interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Libertyville.
