Anna Szczygiel, Nèe; Chudy, 86, of Grayslake and formerly of Addison, IL, passed away peacefully Monday, January 24, 2022. She was born July 8, 1935, in Rychôw, Poland, and was the second youngest of five daughters born to the union of Franciszek and Rozalia Chudy. She worked in a grocery store in her younger years in Poland and then immigrated to the United States in 1962 after a pen pal relationship that ended up in a marriage to her late husband Mikolaj. She also worked as a cook at Millie’s Pancake Shoppe in Addison and then as a Quality Control Inspector at GTE in Northlake, IL until the company closed. She was instrumental in helping to establish and build the Divine Mercy Polish Parish in Lombard, IL. Anna was always able to find a Catholic church to call home wherever she resided and was dedicated to her faith and the church community.
Anna is survived by her children; the late John (Eva) Szczygiel of Salem, WI, and Elizabeth (the late William) Kowalski of Round Lake Beach, IL, her grandchildren; Michael, Catherine, Christine, Justin, Caroline, and Matthew, her sisters: Władysława (the late Władysław) Pabianczyk of Sosnowiec, Poland, Stanislawa (the late Władysław) Zak of Niwa Monovicka, Poland, Jozefa (the late Stanisław) Szuper of Dearborn Heights, MI. And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she considered family. She was preceded in death by her husband Mikolaj Szczygiel, her son; John Szczygiel, and her sister; Emilia (the late Jan) Brania.
