Assunta Bernardi, age 84 of Highwood passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Evanston Hospital. She was born December 30, 1937 in Sant'Anna Pelago, Modena, Italy to the union of Giuseppe and Edvige (Picchietti) Facchini. On June 3, 1961 she married Pier Luigi Bernardi and the couple immigrated to Highwood, Illinois in Spring of 1962 where she worked as a seamstress and then started her family. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Guild of Saint James Church, and the former Cuore Arte Club. She enjoyed spending time with her ladies knitting group and playing cards in the evenings with her friends. She took great pride in her home and family. She was an amazing cook and could sew anything effortlessly. Beloved wife of 60 years to Pier Luigi Bernardi. Loving mother of Diana (Tim) Joren of Highwood. Fond nonna of Erica Joren. Dear sister of Angelo (Gabriella) Facchini of Highwood and Livio (Ivana) Facchini of Highland Park. Fond zia and bis zia to many.
Visitation Friday, February 11, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until time of funeral mass 11:00 A.M. at Saint James Church, 134 North Avenue, Highwood. Rev. Thomas F. Baldonieri, celebrant. Entombment following at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Road, Libertyville.
