Claude Mitchell ("Mitch") Owens

Claude Mitchell “Mitch” Owens, 73, US Navy Vietnam Veteran of Grayslake, IL, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 Surrounded by his family in Libertyville, IL, he was born May 23, 1952 in Achilles, VA, and was the fifth child of six born to the union of Woodrow “Bill” & Janie Owens,  at age 19, Mitch met the love of his life at Hospital Corp School and on August 19, 1972 married Janet Joann Jett, where they were both sent to locations around the world starting in Rota Spain, to Portsmouth, VA where Mitch started nursing school, to Yokosuka, Japan, where he worked as a teacher at the US Armed Forces Education Center, and then finally stationed at the Great Lakes Navy Base where he finished his nursing degree, in 1987, Mitch went on to work for the Capt. James A Lovell Federal Medical Center for 32 years and from1990 to 2019 as a Psychiatric Nurse.

Mitch is survived by loving wife of 53 years, Janet Joann Owens, nee: Jett of Grayslake, IL, formally of St. Louis, MO, his sons; Kenneth (Kimberly Sobczak) Owens of Killeen, TX, and Scott (Maria) Owens of Waukegan, IL, his granddaughter Elizabeth Owens, and grandson; Connor Owens, his brother; Lynwood (Joan) Owens of White Marsh, VA, sister in laws; Alice Owens of Achilles, VA, and Francis Kemp of North, VA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, preceded in death by his parents; Woodrow& Janie Owens, his step mother; Margaret Owens, his sisters; Barbara (the late Tommy) Thompson, Shirley (the late Harry) Sterling, Betsy (the late Johnny) Jenkins, his brothers; James Owens, and William Kemp.

Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the Symonds Lakes Funeral Home 111 W. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL, 60030, Chapel Services at 1:00 P.M. Rev.
