Darlene Ann Gates was born Monday, August 21, 1950, in South Bend, Indiana. She was the 5th blessing of 8 children born from the holy matrimony of John and Nellie Gates.
Darlene Ann Gates accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Darlene was more than just a throwback to a simpler time when family meant everything. Not only did she raise her own children, but she took a major part in helping rear her grandchildren and anyone else’s children as well. She instilled the importance of integrity, morals, values and family love. She married Stanley Orr who is a native of Chicago, Illinois. Out of this union, Darlene was a beloved mother of 5 children. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely. Darlene enjoyed playing her scratch offs and dancing. Darlene was also a faithful and loving caregiver for her brother, Larry Gates.
Darlene Ann Gates peacefully transitioned from this earthly life on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia. Her parents, John and Nellie Gates, sisters, Eula Hall, Mamie Marie Allen and grand-daughter, Miracle La’Shae Sampson preceded her in death.
Survivors are: Five children-Alphonso Gates, LaTonia Sampson (Louis), Arnesha Gates, Courtney Gates and Larry Gates. Nine Grandchildren: Courtney Gates Jr., Malachi Gates, Dominique Pickett, Louis Sampson Jr., Chrishonda Beck, Chris Beck, Amiya Green,Jeffrey Sampson, Jordan Sampson. Six Great Grandchildren: Isaiah Sampson, Jasai Sampson, Miylo Seaborn, Jariah Beck, Noah Beck and Ali Beck. Five Siblings: Barbara Gates, Shirley Gates, Joanne Gates, Caroline Gates, Larry Gates and a host of nieces & nephews.
