Daniel Fliss, 61, of Grayslake, IL passed gently from this world on July 24 at Lake Forest Hospital. He was surrounded by his wife of 20 years,Tan Jie and several dear friends. He was born April 3, 1961 in Highland Park and grew up in Bannockburn,IL. He graduated from Deerfield High School in 1979, and earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting and Computer Science from Northern Illinois University in 1983. Dave started his career at Medline in 1978-1999, leaving as an Executive VP of Financial Analysis and also meeting the love of his life, Tan Jie, where a new and spectacular journey would begin. In 2002, he worked as an Executive VP with International MedSurg Connection until founding his own company in 2006, Welmed Inc. Dave was President/CEO of Welmed, Inc, a medical supply and device company, as well as owner of PPE Plus Inc., based in Chicago. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Diana Pleeter (Bruce) of Naples, Florida, four nieces and nephews, and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Melinda “Pat” Fliss, of Bannockburn, IL and his brother Mike Fliss of Washington.
Dave traveled the world, six continents and visited 65 countries. He lived his life to the absolute fullest all the while touching the lives of so many through his work and personal travels. A “foodie” by heart, Dave enjoyed sharing his love of food with his family and friends. Whether it was preparing dinner at home with Tan Jie or a great restaurant with friends, it wasn't just about the food, but rather the fellowship. He also had a great love of all kinds of music, especially the Blues, New Orleans Jazz, Cajun & Zydeco. Besides his true love of Chicago, Dave loved traveling throughout the “Deep South” especially New Orleans and “Cajun Country”.
There will be no services. Instead, he wanted the celebration of his life to be memories of “Fliss Fest.”
