Dolores "Dee Dee" Vanderpal Obituary

Dolores Rose Vanderpal, affectionately known as “Dee Dee,” age 90, of Highwood, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, March 29, 2026, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on December 15, 1935, in Highland Park, Illinois, to Larry and Mary (Kiska) Morano. DeeDee was a lifelong resident of the area. She attended Oak Terrace School and graduated from Highland Park High School.

DeeDee was known by everyone—and she truly knew everyone in return. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel special, and her warmth, generosity, and “heart of gold” left a lasting impression on all who met her. She loved entertaining, cooking, and staying busy, always finding joy in caring for others.

A passionate animal lover, DeeDee opened her home and heart to many pets over the years, both dogs and cats, treating each as family. She was also an avid artist who loved to paint, expressing her creativity with enthusiasm and talent.

Professionally, DeeDee was a beautician and successful salon owner. She was the proprietor of Dee's Celebrity Hair Styles in Highwood, Coiffures of Lake Forest for over 25 years, and also working within the community as a stylist until her retirement in her early 80s, where she built lasting relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

DeeDee was married first to Robert Vanderpal for three years and later to Peter VanHoutum for 25 years.

She is survived by her loving children: Peter (Diane) Vanderpal, Mark VanHoutum, and Kristie Bleers. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert (Chris) Vanderpal. She is also survived by her seven cherished grandchildren: Samantha Vanderpal; Kelli (Walter) Furness; Nikki (Kevin) Drent; Reno Vanderpal; Paytrus VanHoutum; Luke Bleers; and Tessa Bleers; as well as her beloved great-grandson, William Robert Furness. DeeDee is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Dianne (Blase) Viti and Patty (Bill) Gallagher.
