Dorothy M. Cioni

Dorothy M. Cioni nee: Mahen, age 102 of Highland Park passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at her home. She was born in Highland Park on September 10, 1920, and resided there all of her life. She married Leo Cioni, the love of her life, on March 23, 1940, at St. James Church, Highwood and had been happily married for 64 years before his passing in 2004.  She was employed at Illinois Bell, Iredale Moving & Storage, and the Civilian Personnel Office at Fort Sheridan.  She was a longtime member of St. James Parish.  

Devoted mother of Tim Cioni (Pam Morrissey) of Burnsville, MN, Lee (Jack) Jashelski of Deerfield, Suzie (the late Terry) Hasek of Lake Forest and John (Luana) Cioni of Highwood. Proud grandmother of Tom (Tonya) Cioni of Green Bay, WI, Rebecca Cioni of Seattle, WA, Stacey (Matt) Gordon of Denver, CO, Chad (Jen) Jashelski of Chicago, Michael (Molly) Cioni of Glenview and Anne (Ben) Holland of Chicago. Cherished great-grandmother of Riley, Jordan and Wesley Cioni, Jack and Daniel Gordon, Stella and Charlotte Jashelski, Cate, Jack and Leo Cioni, Emilia Holland, and a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her sisters, Rose, Anna Mae, Bernice and brother Frank.  Richard Sheridan, her half-brother, resides of Grayslake. 

Dorothy loved every second of life.  Though the winter months were never her favorite, except when she was spending them in Florida with her husband, Leo, she was always busy bowling, reading and knitting.  When spring arrived, so did the sparkle in her eyes.  She loved golfing, gardening and walking around Highwood and, most of all, sitting on her front porch.  We will all miss driving or walking by her home and not seeing her there.  She was an amazing, remarkable woman. 

Visitation, Monday, October 10, 2022, at 9:00 A.M until time of Mass at 10:00 A.M at St. James Church, 134 North Avenue, Highwood.  Entombment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd., Libertyville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Catholic Charities, PO Box 7154, Carol Stream, IL 60197-7154 in support of the Food Program at St. James Church.
