Edward Daniel Young

Edward Daniel Young, 84 of Grayslake, IL, formerly of Rolling Meadows, IL passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, after a brief illness. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara (nee: Kitch).  Ed was born in Billerica, MA on January 13, 1939, and was the youngest of five children born to the union of Arthur and Mary Young.  Edward and Barbara were married for 62 years.  They moved from New Hampshire and settled in and built their family in Rolling Meadows where they lived for 47 years.  Whereafter, they moved to Saddlebrook Farms in Grayslake in 2013.  Ed was the supervisor and plant manager of General Fire Extinguisher Co. until his retirement due to complications to Multiple Sclerosis.  He was also the co-owner of Grandma’s Garden Flower Shop in Northbrook, IL.   Ed was an avid gardener, woodworker, enjoyed musical theatre and loved to fish from the lakes of Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico.  He lived with MS for 38 years, but that didn’t slow him down.  Edward could be seen zipping around in his motorized wheelchair on the sidelines of his grandchildren's sporting events and graduations of whom he was immensely proud. He was also a frequent attendee of his son Dan’s football games at Palatine HS and Barrington HS where he was a coach.  He also attended his daughter Alison’s badminton matches at Palatine HS where she is a coach.

Ed is survived by his wife Barbara Lea Kitch Young, his son; Daniel (Debbie) Young of Cary, Il, daughters; Lisa (Scott) Young of Rotunda West, FL, and Alison (Jeffery) West of Round Lake Beach, IL, his cherished grandchildren; Hillary, Lindsay, and Madison Young, Emily, Cole, and Joshua West, brother; Charles (Ruth) Young of Peabody, MA, brother in law; John (the late Marjorie) Kitch of Kingston, IL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents; Arthur and Mary Young, sisters; Winifred (the late Burt) Silk, and Claire Clements, and his brother; Robert (the late Marty) Young.
