Erwin Joseph Godawa, 93. US Army Korean War Veteran, of Grayslake, IL, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, February 24, 2022, he was born November 19, 1928 in Chicago, IL, and was the youngest of five children born to the union of Szczepan and Barbara Godawa, He was an enthusiastic and patriotic veteran who served in the Korean war theater from November 1950 to August 1952, he was a loyal and dedicated husband and father, a loving man who always had a song in his heart and words on his lips, a faithful servant who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing, and a loyal and faithful brother to Local #17 Heat & Frost Insulators Union.
Erwin is survived by his children; Cynthia (Tim) Reeves of Marengo, IL, and Brian (Kim) Godawa of Allen, TX, grandchildren; Dana (William) Martin, Travis (Rachel) Godawa, and Sarah Christoforakis, great grandchildren; Skyler Martin, Lance Martin, Levi Godawa, Niko Christoforakis, Luke Godawa, and Elijah Godawa, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, preceded in death by his wife; Lorraine Godawa, his parents; Szczepan and Barbara Godawa, and his eldest son; Michael Godawa, and three brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be held 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the Symonds Lakes Funeral Home 111 W. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030, and visitation 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 4, 2022 until 10:30 A.M. at the funeral home, funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. at the St. Gilbert Church Catholic Church 301 E. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030.
