February 19, 1948 – December 5, 2025
Eva, age 77, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side.
Born in Austria, Eva immigrated to the United States in 1952 with her parents, John and Katherine Gilde, and her brother, Frank Rehberger. From a young age, she developed a strong work ethic and a love for helping others—whether it was assisting in her mother’s beauty shop or volunteering in her community.
Eva lived a vibrant and accomplished life. She was a talented cosmetologist, a dedicated Real Estate Broker and Appraiser, and later worked as a secretary in the ER unit, offering comfort and support to countless people during difficult moments. Her passion for service extended far beyond her work. She was actively involved in many community organizations, including the 885 Civic Club; the Daughters of the Nile—where she supported Shriners Hospitals for Children; the Antioch Woman’s Club; the American Aid Society; and Century 21 Easter Seals, a nonprofit supporting individuals with disabilities. No matter where she was, Eva always found a way to give back.
Eva faced a long and courageous battle with dementia for over 10 years. She was lovingly cared for by her husband, Ted, and her daughter throughout her illness, and after his passing on June 7, 2025, she continued to receive devoted care from her daughter in her daughter’s home. Even as the disease progressed, her loving spirit, gentle strength, and deep compassion continued to shine through.
In her 55 years of marriage to her beloved husband, Ted—whom she married on June 6, 1970—Eva enjoyed a life full of adventure, laughter, and togetherness. They loved boating, golfing, snowmobiling, gardening, dancing, scuba diving, traveling, and spending time by the lake with family and friends. She enjoyed crafting, baking, cooking, and staying active in the community. Growing up, she also loved campaigning and staying involved in local events—she had a natural gift for connecting with people.
Above all, Eva was devoted to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Oksana, her son-in-law Paul Poulos, and her cherished granddaughters, Autumn and Rylee Poulos; her niece Erika Abbate; her great-nieces Nicole Yandura (husband Brad) and Danielle Szilva (husband Steve); her great-nephew Tony Abbate (wife Marina)and Rob Rehberger; and her great-great-nieces and nephews Nick, Nate, Ariana Yandura, Mila, Nino Abbate, Scarlett, and Daniella Szilva, as well as many extended family members and friends who adored her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ted; her parents, John and Katherine Gilde; her brother, Frank Rehberger, and his wife, Erika; her little brother, Nikolas; her niece, Eva Borofsky; her nephews, Frankie Rehberger and Bobby Rehberger; as well as other extended family members and dear friends who were like family.
Eva will be remembered for her compassion, her unwavering strength, her warmth, and her deep love for her family, friends, and community. She touched the lives of everyone who knew her, and her legacy of kindness and service will live on through all the people she helped and all the hearts she lifted.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to Eva’s grandchildren’s education fund—a cause she cared deeply about, always wanting to give them the best possible future. The education fund is in care of Oksana Poulos.
May her memory be eternal.
