Florence Mae Adams

Florence Mae Adams, age 90, of Des Plaines, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in Bloomingdale, Illinois.

Florence was born on September 15, 1934, in Chicago, the beloved daughter of Edward Joseph and Stella Mae (Rachmaciej) Zurawik. She was a proud graduate of Wells High School in Chicago, where she built friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.

On September 11, 1954, she married the love of her life, Donald Joseph Adams, at St. Hedwig Church in Chicago. Together they shared a joyful and loving marriage until Donald’s passing on Good Friday, April 6, 1993.

Florence’s working years were marked by dedication and care. She served as a bank teller at Cragin Bank in Chicago, a receptionist at Home Sweet Home Carpet Company, and a beloved crossing guard in Des Plaines—duties she carried out with warmth and a bright smile.

Florence had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures and adventures. She loved traveling to Hawaii and Arizona, and she never passed up a good time at the casinos in Las Vegas or Rosemont. Whether watching her favorite shows like Wheel of Fortune, American Idol, The Voice, or Dancing with the Stars, or enjoying a handheld poker game, Florence always found joy in entertainment and fun. Dining out was one of her favorite pastimes, and she especially loved fried shrimp at Bob Chinn's.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald, and her sister Barbara (Eugene) Dorsch of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Florence is survived by her four devoted children: Donald B. (Kathie) Adams of Elk Grove Village, Sharon (Stefan) Cretu of Sun City, Arizona, Kathy Adams (Oscar Rodriguez) of Arlington Heights, and Debbie Adams of Des Plaines. She was a cherished grandmother to Joe Adams of Schaumburg.

She is also survived by her sister Donna (Richard) Malinowski of Palatine and her beloved godchild Timothy Malinowski (Alison Zentz) of Fox Lake.

Florence held a special place in the hearts of her nieces and nephews: Eugene (Jennifer) Dorsch of Scottsdale, Randy Dorsch of Cave Creek, Russell (Vicki) Dorsch of Phoenix, Jennifer (Steven) Czerak of Palatine, Christine (Brandon) Green of Rolling Meadows, and Timothy (Alison Zentz) Malinowski of Fox Lake. Her memory will also be treasured by her great-nieces and nephews: Sarah, Jeffrey, Tyler, and Hailey Dorsch; Sydney and Aidan Reese Czerak; and Harper and Riley Green.

Florence will be remembered for her quick wit, generous heart, love of family, and zest for life. She brought joy and laughter to those around her and leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories.
