It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Gangaben Hirabhai Patel, age 82, of Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025, at home, surrounded by her devoted family. Born on January 28, 1942, in Simadi, India, Gangaben was the youngest child of Hirabhai and Shanti Patel. Her life was one of grace, strength, and unyielding love, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As a young girl, Gangaben endured the loss of her mother and was lovingly raised by her brother, a bond that shaped her resilient and caring nature. In 1958, she married Natu Patel, and together they shared a beautiful life, celebrating 70 years of marriage filled with love, respect, and mutual support. Gangaben and Natu’s partnership was an embodiment of devotion and dedication, and she was his constant companion and source of strength until his passing on May 4, 2022.
In 1972, Gangaben and her family immigrated to Chicago, where she quickly embraced her new life in the United States. She adapted with grace and warmth, becoming an integral part of her community and a cherished member of her family. Her love for her family knew no bounds, and she devoted herself fully to ensuring that her children were successful, both in their personal lives and careers. Her pride in their accomplishments was evident, and her guidance, love, and encouragement shaped the people they became.
Gangaben was an extraordinary cook, known for her delicious meals that brought family and friends together. She had a special fondness for pizza, one of her favorite treats, and loved nothing more than sharing good food and great conversation with loved ones. A social and engaging spirit, she had an innate ability to make others feel welcome, and her home was always a place of warmth and joy. Gangaben cherished spending time with those she loved, and her presence at any gathering was always a gift to everyone fortunate enough to be near her.
Gangaben is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Natu Patel, and by three sisters and one brother. She is survived by her son, Dave (Leena) Patel of Naperville; her daughter, Amanda (George) McCullough of Chicago and son, Ankur Patel of Chicago; six adored grandchildren: Rikesh and Simron Patel, Matthew and Jacob McCullough, and Jasmine and Reeya Patel; and numerous extended family and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Hindu service at 2:00 p.m. at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, IL. Cremation rites will be private at the Lakes Crematory in Lake Villa, Illinois.
Gangaben’s legacy of love, selflessness, and devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her spirit will forever shine in the lives she touched, and her memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of experiencing her warmth and kindness.
May she rest in peace, reunited with her husband, and surrounded by the love she so freely gave in life. The family would like to contribute to the Pasadena Humane Society in lieu of flowers. Here is the website:
