Georgia Gregory Griffiths

Georgia Gregory Griffiths, 86, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at Green Oaks Senior Living in Green Oaks, IL, after living with dementia for many years. She was born on September 6, 1939 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Harriet and Owen Gregory.

Georgia spent her early years in Jackson, Mississippi graduating from Murrah High School and Mississippi College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She completed postgraduate studies at Jefferson Hospital School of Medical Technology in Roanoke, Virginia, and worked as head of the laboratory at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in Lexington, VA, from 1963 to 1965.

In August 1963, Georgia married Gene Griffiths in Lexington, VA. They lived in Miami, FL, Carmel-by-the Sea, CA, and Hackensack, NJ before moving back home to Jackson, MS in 1970 to raise their young children and join the family business, Gregory Mfg. Co. in Jackson, MS, and its successor, Louis Melind Co. in Skokie, IL. Georgia and Gene were happily married for 63 years.

After moving to the Chicago area in 1994, Georgia went on to work as a sales representative for Dann-Dee Display Fixtures in Skokie from 1996 until her retirement from the company in 2001. She then served as church secretary at Christ Church in Lake Forest, IL, from 2001 to 2007, where she was a devoted member.

Georgia was a devout Christian and served her church in many ways, with a particular interest in children’s ministry. She also served in a prison ministry for several years in Lake County, IL. Georgia opened her home to and mentored women from her church who were facing difficult times and hosted a weekly women’s prayer group for more than ten years.

Georgia is survived by her husband, Gene, of Green Oaks, IL; four children: Harriet Cooke (Terry) of Hickory, NC; Charlotte Ann Marie Griffiths of Houston, TX; John Griffiths (Brooke) of Overland Park, KS; and Meg Costigan (Dan) of Glenview, IL; and eight grandchildren: Georgia Nicole (Brad Estep) and Brandon Cooke; Owen and Duncan Elliff; Jack and Luke Griffiths; and Chloe and Padraig Costigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Harriet Gregory and her sister, Nan Gregory Sugg.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Church Lake Forest, 100 Waukegan Road, (Routs 43 and 60), Lake Forest, IL, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Ascension Cemetery, Libertyville, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
