Gerard Noval, 50, US Navy Retired Chief Petty Officer
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gerard Noval, beloved husband, father, brother, and cherished friend, who departed this world on October 30, 2024 at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Medical Center in North Chicago, IL. Gerard was born on December 30, 1973, in Manila, Philippines, and he was 50 years old at the time of his death.
Gerard enlisted in the United States Navy in 1995, proudly serving his country for 24 years prior to retiring in 2019. His service took him to various parts of the globe, including San Diego (CA), Virginia Beach (VA), Fallon (NV), Guam, Washington D.C, Yokosuka, Japan, and Joint Military Postal Activities (JMPA) Atlantic & Pacific at Chicago O’hare International Airport (IL). In 2000, Gerard became a U.S. citizen, a proud accomplishment that reflected his deep commitment and love for his adopted country. He achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, a testament to his leadership, dedication, and unwavering spirit.
Outside of his military career, Gerard was a devoted family man. He was married to Fannilyn, the love of his life, with whom he shared countless joyful moments. Together, they have three wonderful sons, Jay, Brandon, and Jarod, who were the pride of his life. Gerard took every opportunity to instill in his sons the values of hard work, integrity, and service.
Gerard is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Fannilyn Noval of Round Lake Beach, IL; his mother, Maria Magdalena (Lester) Noval Wells of Sacramento, CA; his father, Jovenson B. Mabalatan of Cebu, Philippines; his children, Jarod Noval of Round Lake Beach, IL, Brandon (Abigail) Yrorita of Burlington, WA, and Jay Yrorita of Sydney, Australia; his sisters, Paula (Seabelo) Silitshena of Raleigh, NC, and Dr. Patricia (Dr. Korboi) Evans of Potomac, MD, and 5 additional siblings of Cebu, Philippines; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gerard's legacy extends beyond his military service and family life; he was a friend to many, known for his kind heart, infectious sense of humor and easy smile, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He touched the lives of everyone he met, fostering connections that will not be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Symonds Lakes Funeral Home, 111 W. Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030. A Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 135 S. Milwaukee Ave, Lake Villa, IL 60046. Interment with full military honors will take place in early spring 2025 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
Gerard Noval will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace.
