Gloria Peters, born in Chicago in 1938, was the youngest of David and Lilly Yadgir’s six children. She attended the LaSalle School along with many other Assyrian American children whose parents had fled genocide seeking freedom and opportunity in the United States.
Faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ most defined Gloria’s life. She first attended the Chicago Gospel Tabernacle as a child, after being invited by a neighbor girl, developing a lifelong love of singing in the church choir and time reading the Bible. She spent the rest of her life sharing her faith and the love of Christ.
Gloria valued family, and both she and her husband Isaac were committed to ensuring their two sons had the opportunities they didn’t have growing up. While she pushed the importance of education, she always emphasized the eternal value of a relationship with Jesus Christ. She was happiest while sharing time with her extended family and during regular phone conversations with her niece and nephews.
Gloria graduated from the Grant Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, later earned her bachelor’s degree, and cared for patients as a registered nurse for 50 years. She provided comfort to many friends and family members at the end of their lives while also sharing her faith.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents David and Lillian Yadgir, sisters Sonja and Dolores who both passed before she was born, brothers William (Carol) Yadgir, John Yadgir, and James (June) Yadgir, and her nephews David Yadgir and James Yadgir.
She is survived by her husband Isaac of almost 62 years, sons Michael and Paul (Sydney), her beloved sister-in-law Jenny (John) Yadgir, her niece Victoria Ann (John) Domkowski, nephews Mark (Diana) Yadgir, Dr. John (Amy) Yadgir, Jr, Daniel (Sandra) Yadgir, and Robert (Patty) Yadgir, and her many great nieces and nephews.
Gloria was a member of Christ Church Lake Forest, and her only directive was that the Gospel message be shared at her memorial service. Her family does not despair as they know she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
“That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
