Jay Francis Baker, age 81 of Richmond, Illinois passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at the Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville. He was born December 9, 1941 in Madison Ohio to the union of Sigmund and Gertrude (Woodruff) Baker where he spent his childhood years. On January 5, 1959 at the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA, served in Vietnam for two tours, receiving a Bronze Star and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. On March 10, 1962, in Painesville, Ohio he married Heidemarie Freitag and the couple started their family and a military family they were, traveling from base to base across the country. He retired from the U.S Army at Fort Sheridan at the rank of E-8, Master Sergeant. After his Army retirement, Jay worked at Stack-On Tools in Wauconda, and afterwards he worked part-time at the Ace Hardware Store in Richmond, Jay was also a prominent and proud member at the Richmond American Legion Post 253.
Beloved husband of Heidemarie. Loving father of Denise (Greg) Hudson of Guam, Robin (Karen) Baker of Oakwood Hills, IL and Kimberly (Thomas) Bringas of Skaneateles, NY. Fond grandfather of 10: Ryan Mikal, Dana (Taylor) Lucas, Brennan (Haley) Baker, Allison Baker, Emma Baker, Ethan Baker, Brayden Baker, Dylan "Sage" Baker, Chase Corcoran and Nicolas Bringas and the newest joy of his heart a great grandson Miles Jay Baker, who carries on his name. Memorial visitation Friday, November 17, 2023 from 11:00 AM until time of memorial service at Noon at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, Illinois. Interment and Military Honors following at 1:00 P.M. at the Fort Sheridan National Cemetery, Highwood, Illinois.
