Jan "John" Dziekanski, 75, of Wheeling, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 11th, 2025, just weeks shy of his 76th birthday. Born in Sokolowice, Poland on May 14, 1949 to Stanislaw and Genowefa Dziekanski. John was the third of eight siblings. He lived a remarkable life marked by hard work, tenacity, and unwavering dedication to his family. John dedicated years of his life to his career in construction, where he was known for his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and fair leadership. When John wasn't on construction job sites building projects like the Grayslake Central High School and Medieval Times, he could be found tending to his garden. He had a gift for growing the biggest and best vegetables that he loved to share with everyone. John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He attended every school concert, dance recital, graduation, basketball game, football game, and hockey game.
John is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Victoria; his children;Regina (Daniel) Ostick, Christopher Dziekanski, and Johnny (Jenna) Dziekanski; his grandchildren, Eric, Kaitlyn, Noah, Caleb, Charlie, and Annalise, his brothers and sisters; Kazimiera (the late Eugienusz) Wisniewski, the late Tadeusz Dziekanski, Antoni Dziekanski, Sophie (the late Zdzislaw) Horabik, the late Mitchell Dziekanski, the late Anna Muller, and the late Lester Dziekanski. and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 21, 2025, 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Symonds Lakes Funeral Home 111 W. Belvidere Rd. Grayslake, IL 60030. Tuesday, April 22, 2025 morning visitation will be held at 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 181 Dundee Rd.
