Judith (Judy) Ann Haga passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Haga.
Judy was born in Eureka, KS on October 5, 1939, where she grew up with her siblings, Jean Basham Hamori (deceased), Johnny Basham (deceased), and Jackie Basham Vietti. She delighted in coaxing them into shenanigans while most usually escaping any blame. Nonetheless, she was dearly loved by them for her boundless zest for life, her wicked sense of humor, and her kindness toward all.
Following high school Judy attended college in Kansas and then moved to Grayslake, IL upon her marriage to Ray Haga. She compiled her degree in Illinois, where she applied her passion for teaching and learning in several schools in the area.
Always drawn to a life of service, Judy was a scout troop leader as well as an extraordinary community volunteer, as exampled by her inaugural efforts to establish an art scholarship program for students in several high schools in the surrounding area. She also was a member of the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs, where she served as president for two years, and the American Association of University Women. One of her greatest sources of joy was serving on the College of Lake County Foundation Board of Directors, because she was keenly aware of the value of a college degree and the correlative need to provide the financial means necessary for students to pursue their hopes and dreams.
Beyond Judy’s community and civic engagement, she was an avid gardener courtesy of her grandmother, Grace, a stellar bridge player, and a travel enthusiast. She will be remembered by her family and friends as the epitome of join de vivre (joy of life) and her warmth that was extended to all with whom she came in contact.
