Kirsten Parry Obituary

Kirsten Ann Parry nee: Monger passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at her Northbrook home. She was born on October 18, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Harold and Ingaborg (Jacobson) Monger.

Kirsten loved to sing and was a classically trained vocalist. She taught music in primary and middle schools in her early life and then shared her love with some of the neighborhood children by giving piano lessons. She joined the Melodeers Chapter of the Sweet Adeline’s and was part of the chorus when they won the International competition 3 years in a row! She also was a member of not one, but 2 senior choruses. She sang with them until her glaucoma made it too difficult to participate.

Kirsten loved her husband and her family and gave up many things so her children could have more. For a city girl she sure spent a lot of time camping, fishing and skiing but as she recalled, it was great family time.

Kirsten treasured her friendships. She was still in contact with an old college roommate and folks that all played bridge together many moons ago. She loved to go out for a simple burger or French cuisine, the friends she dined with made the meal what it was, not the food. She loved concerts at Ravinia and plays in the city.

She was an avid gardener and with the help of her family she always had beautiful gardens.

She had a great sense of adventure. She talked her family into going to Grand Cayman Island when it was just a destination for scuba diving and snorkeling. Motels were few back then and Seven Mile Beach was mostly unpopulated.  For her son’s birthday one year she insisted on taking him to the boundary waters in Minnesota which had tiny little cabins and you flew in by sea plane.

Kirsten had a very quick dry sense of humor that could surprise you when you least expected it.

Most of all, Kirsten was a sweet soul with a heart of gold. She was much loved and will be missed so, so much.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ingeborg and Harold Monger, her husband Douglas Parry, her son Spencer Parry, her brother Jeffery Monger.

She is survived by her daughter Alexandria Parry and nieces, Karen and Lynn.
