Lemuel Hubbard (aka Smitty) was the beloved son of Jennie Virginia Walker and Alexander Hubbard who preceded him in death. Smitty graduated from McKinley Elementary in Harvey, IL and furthered his education at Simeon High School in Chicago, IL.
In his youth years he had the drive to be an entrepreneur. As a youngster he started a business landscaping yards and delivering newspaper. At such a young age he developed the tenacity to become a hard worker which eventually carried over into his adult life. Smitty was loved and respected by everyone that crossed his path. He had a passion for sports specifically football and baseball. He cherished moments like fishing with his father, going to the movies, family gatherings and singing his favorite songs.
Smitty had a great work ethic, dedication and an unwavering loyalty to his employers University of Illinois and Grant Hospital where he committed over 20 years of service. Smitty was truly a lover of music. His genre of choice was the “Dusties” with Smokey Robinson being his favorite artist of choice. He would sing and do the two step as if he was part of the group the Miracles. It was a pleasure to observe him in his element taking in the art of sound. Smitty was also fond of the Bears and Cubs, a true fan indeed.
Family meant the most to Smitty. Anytime he was able to partake in spending time with his loved ones he was there. He enjoyed soul food but loved some Barbecue. Smitty was a free spirit that enjoyed his time on earth despite the challenges he faced. Smitty was faithful member of Broadview Missionary Baptist Church presiding Pastor Marvin G Parker for 11 years. He joined Redeeming Grace Evangelistic Church and spend many years attending Sunday school and being a servant of God.
Smitty is survived by loving son Taron Parker, brother Nathan Hubbard, sisters Marsha Hubbard and Ella Grantley and a host of other family and friends to cherish his memory. Smitty also had four siblings, Ricky, Michael, Ann and Stephanie who preceded him in death.
