M. Marta Renteria Guerrero, age 66 of Waukegan, formerly of Highwood, Illinois, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago. She was born on February 23, 1959, in Apaseo El Alto, Guanajuato, Mexico, to Pedro Renteria and Camila Guerrero.
In 1975, Marta immigrated to the United States with her family, settling in Highwood, Illinois. Arriving with little, she worked tirelessly to help build a better life for her loved ones. Her dedication, strength, and unwavering work ethic became the foundation for her family’s success.
For ten years, Marta worked at the Ramada Inn Hotel (formerly Hotel Moraine) in Highwood before becoming an independent domestic worker in private residences. Known for her joyful spirit, she was always smiling, laughing, and singing—bringing light into every home she entered.
Marta had a generous heart and was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. She cherished family gatherings and took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Judy Romero of Algonquin and Vivian Esther Mauricio of Waukegan; and two beloved grandchildren, Lisette Romero and Brian M. Romero. She is also remembered by her siblings Esther Guerrero, Francisco Guerrero, Virginia Mendoza, and Soledad “Pepe” Rios and many nieces and nephews that adored her.
Marta was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Cecilia Arreguin Guerrero; and her significant other, Willard Mauricio.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 4:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday, May 16, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Christ Our Hope Parish (Saint James Church), 134 North Avenue, Highwood, with Rev. Hernan Cuevas officiating. Entombment will take place at a later date at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, Illinois.
Marta’s life was a testament to perseverance, love, and joy. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
