Manuela Mary Bustamante, age 78, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, November 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 27, 1948, in Chicago, she was the only child of Julian and Esther (Soobedra) Gara.
Manuela was a lifelong Chicago resident who had a deep love for learning. She attended Northeastern Illinois University, the University of Illinois, and the University of Illinois Chicago Circle Campus, earning a Bachelor's degree in education. She dedicated much of her professional life to teaching, particularly in the primary grades, with a special passion for Kindergarten. Her home was always filled with books, typewriters, and computers, reflecting her lifelong dedication to education and her love for sharing knowledge.
A woman of faith, Manuela had a strong personal relationship with God and was deeply religious. Her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her existence, and she found great comfort and strength in her faith.
Manuela was also known for her vibrant spirit and love of adventure. One of her favorite places to visit was Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, where she enjoyed the fireworks, rides, parades, and especially the annual Fright Fest. A self-proclaimed shopping enthusiast, she had a passion for finding the perfect items and spent many happy hours browsing stores and enjoying new purchases. She also loved dining out, particularly at her favorite restaurants, where she shared many memorable meals with family and friends.
On July 17, 1965, Manuela married her soulmate, Antonio Bustamante Jr., in Chicago. Together, they built a loving family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Antonio Jr.; their children, daughter Sylvia and son Antonio; 10 cherished grandchildren: Annette Carrillo, Jonathan Bustamante, Rafael Ramirez, Antonio Bustamante, Manuela Bustamante, Sylvia Kayla Bustamante, Salvador Golly, Cyrus Golly, Julius Bustamante, and Angelina Vasquez; as well as 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Manuela was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation and Funeral Mass
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St.Agnes of Bohemia Catholic Church, 2651 S. Central Park Avenue, Chicago, IL 60623 Rev. Marco Antonio Franco Luna, celebrant.
Following the mass, interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois, at 1:30 PM.

Manuela will be remembered for her love of learning, her joy for life, and her unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Her presence will be sorely missed, but her legacy of love and faith will continue in the hearts of all who knew her.
