Mario Giuseppe Galletti, age 88 of Highland Park passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at Highland Park Hospital. He was born January 5, 1934 in Palermo, Sicily, Italy to the union of Vincenzo and Concetta (Ciulla) Galletti. He immigrated with his wife and 2 young children in 1967 to Ellis Island arriving on the Michelangelo departing from Naples. He moved to Chicago where he worked for the Italian Village until the family moved to Los Angeles, California where he started his first business Mario's Pizza at Hollywood Blvd and Vermont Ave. Hollywood. In 1971 following the San Fernando Earthquake the family returned to Highwood where Mario opened an Italian Food Store Monte Carlo. He then was also a founding partner and chef of 2 Guys from Italy and then in 1983 he founded Fontana de Trevi until its closing in 2004. Mario ended his restauranteur career at his sons Mario's Mondo Cafe in Glenview where he was the host.
Mario was an active member of the Highwood Bocce Ball Club, Highwood. The Elks USA, Chicago Northshore #1316, the Loyal Order of Moose Highland Park Lodge 446 and the former Giovanni Italia Club, Highwood.
Beloved husband of Marion nee: Heid. Loving father of Mario Jr. of North Chicago, Concetta Galletti-Hutton (Milton Katz) of Highland Park and Patrizia Galletti (Michael Winnega) of Mt. Prospect. Fond grandfather of Alex Galletti and Jasmin Katz. Dear brother of Anna Rosa Paci of Palermo, Italy and the late Giuseppina Agnello, Carolina, Giatano, Diego, Anthony and Maria Galletti.
Visitation Sunday, January 16, 2022 from Noon until 5 PM at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood with a reception following at the Highwood Bocce Ball Courts. Interment will be private.
