Maureen Marie Ziegler (Mitchell), 88, of Island Lake, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. She was born March 31, 1935, in Chicago, IL, and was the second of six children born to the union of Amos and Marie Mitchell. Maureen was quality control manager at Motorola for over 20 years and lived her best life since retiring in 1991.
This extraordinary woman lived for her family. As the matriarch, Maureen was known affectionately by many names: “Reen,” “Mom,” “Grams,” “Grami,” “Grandma,” “Gramma,” “Grandmama” and in earlier years, “Mo.” She enjoyed many hobbies, including boating, attending the yacht club, playing Mahjong, dancing, painting, cooking, entertaining, cheering on Chicago sports teams, watching birds, puzzling, playing cards, and sewing. But her most treasured times were those spent with her family.
Maureen is survived by her loving spouse of 34 years, Robert J. Maxson, Jr., of Island Lake, IL/Port Charlotte, FL; her daughter, Robin (Craig) Lepa, of Cresco, IA; her brother, Amos (Carol) Mitchell, of Chicago, IL; her sister-in-law, Gloria Mitchell, of Edgewater, FL; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Maureen is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Marie Mitchell; her husband, Robert Ziegler, Sr.; sons, Robert Ziegler, Jr. and James (the late Karen) Ziegler; sisters, Noreen Mitchell, Mary McCafferty; and brothers, Michael Mitchell and Timothy Mitchell.
