Michelle Torruella Obituary

Michelle Torruella, age 47, passed into eternity on Friday, September 11, 2026, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was born August 9, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois, the second of six children of Miguel and Maria Julia (Montalban) Torruella.

Michelle was a woman whose presence could light up an entire room. She was the radiant light and the glue that held so many people together. She had a remarkable ability to bring people together—even those who were once enemies—and she never hesitated to keep everyone in line while making sure everyone felt loved, cared for, and included.

Michelle lived a love story that her family fondly describes as a real-life Romeo and Juliet story, with a little twist. Together with her husband, David Michael Parks, she built a beautiful life that took them from the city to the country and, most importantly, gave them five beloved children: Rafael, Yalissa, Damian, Antonio, and Miguel.

Michelle attended John A. Logan College in Carterville, Illinois, where she earned her nursing degree. She devoted her career to caring for the elderly, a responsibility she took great pride in. Michelle did not simply care for her patients; she loved them. She saw pieces of her own mother and father in each person she cared for and developed deeply personal relationships with many of them. Her compassion, humor, and genuine concern made a lasting difference in the lives of those entrusted to her care.

To know Michelle was to know unconditional love. She was quick to check you, correct you, feed you, and then remind you just how much she loved you. Although she was a mother to five, her capacity for love extended far beyond her immediate family. Throughout her life, many people came to see Michelle as a mother, sister, and beloved friend. She had a way of making people feel like family.

Michelle was small in stature, standing just 4'8", but there was nothing small about her spirit. She was mighty, strong, determined, and fearless. She faced trials and tribulations throughout her life with grace, a smile, and sometimes a little bit of her famous rage. Her family will always remember that beautiful smile and her contagious giggle, which could bring joy to even the hardest moments.

Michelle's strength was forged through adversity. As a young woman, she survived a gunshot wound to the head and multiple head traumas. Through it all, she showed a fighting spirit like no other. Her strength became an inspiration to those who loved her, especially her children. One of her children remembers that while other girls idolized celebrities, she simply wanted to grow up to be like her mother. That was the kind of woman Michelle was: someone worthy of being someone's greatest role model.

Michelle taught her children many lessons, but among the most important was that happiness is a choice. She encouraged them to choose family, choose health because “health is wealth,” and choose to smile—not only for what is, but also for what once was. She taught them to be free in mind, heart, and soul, and to never forget to love themselves. She embodied those lessons every day of her life.

Michelle's family knows that words can never fully capture who she was. She was laughter, strength, compassion, family, friendship, and limitless love. She was the person who would take care of everyone around her while filling the room with her jokes, her giggle, and her unmistakable personality. Her absence will leave an immeasurable space in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, but her love and the lessons she gave so freely will continue through her children, grandchildren, family, and the countless people whose lives she touched.

Michelle is survived by her beloved husband, David Michael Parks of Anna, Illinois; her mother, Maria Julia Torruellaof Milwaukee, Wisconsin; her five children, Rafael Parks and his fiancée Emily Rogers of Jonesboro, Illinois, Yalissa Parks and Chase Santiago of Allentown, Pennsylvania, Damian Parks of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Antonio Parks of Miles, Iowa, and Miguel Parks of Herrin, Illinois; and her two grandchildren, Melanny and Twila Montalban.

She is also survived by her brothers, Ferdinand Torruella, Miguel “Kiko” Torruella, and Johnny Torruella, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, David Figueroa of Arkansas, and Lorenzo Quintana of Maywood, Illinois; along with many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.

Michelle was preceded in death by her father, Miguel Torruella, in 2002, and her best friend, Melissa Diane Parks, in 2023.
