Oluyemisi Olabisi George (née Meadows), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on June 18, 1937, into the ruling house of Ogunbona Meadows in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. She passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025 leaving behind a remarkable legacy of service, devotion, and love.
Oluyemisi began her education at Cathedral Mission Girls’ School, Broad Street, Lagos, completing her primary and secondary education between 1942 and 1953. She went on to Eleyele Ibadan Preliminary Nursing School (1953–1954) before advancing to Lagos State General Hospital, Mercy Street, to pursue her nursing career.
In 1957, she traveled to the United Kingdom, where she trained at Halifax General Hospital, earning her State Certified Midwife qualification, as well as her Queen’s Nurse certification from the Institute of Nursing at Halifax, United Kingdom. During this time, she met and married Barrister Emmanuel Oluyinka George at the London Registry in Islington in 1957, and together they began their family.
She returned to Nigeria in 1963 and served at the University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, before joining the unified Lagos State Local Government in 1965 as a Nursing Sister. Through years of exemplary service, she rose to the rank of Chief Nursing Officer in Ebute Metta Local Government. Her commitment to maternal and child health was further recognized when, in 1977, she was sponsored to Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, where she studied maternal health, child health, and family planning. She returned to Nigeria in 1979, continuing her work until her retirement after 35 years of dedicated service.
Oluyemisi will be remembered as a woman of strength, integrity, and compassion—an exemplary nurse, a devoted leader, and a pillar of love and support to her family.
She is survived by her beloved children: Gladstone Abolaji George, Michael Adeniyi George, Rosemary Bodunrinwa George, Akintunde Oladele George, and Christian Babafemi George.
She was a dear sister to Mrs. Olubukunola Craig, Adegboyega O. Meadows, Richard Adegbola Meadows, the late Olaleye Meadows, and Olajide Meadows.
She was the loving grandmother of Elizabeth Omotoye Miller, (nee-Abati George, Clariza Adetoun George, Omoshalewa George, Victoria Olufunmilayo Awoyemi, Mary Otolola Olajide, Samuel Olu Olajide, Jonathan Akintola George, Temitope Opeoluwa George, Temitayo Ayooluwa George, Anjolaoluwa George, Aduni George, Feyishayo George, Abike George, and Akinfolarin George, and she leaves behind many great -grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Her life was one of purpose and devotion—to her faith, her family, and her community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, IL 60040. On Monday, September 22, 2025, friends and family are invited for an additional visitation at 11:00 A.M., followed by the funeral service at 12:00 P.M. at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home. A procession will then lead to Vernon Cemetery for interment.
