Paul Egidio Mocogni

Paul Egidio Mocogni, 71, of Highwood, unexpectedly passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024. Paul was born on December 19, 1952 to Stefano and Helen Mocogni. He was a lifelong resident of Highwood, attending St. James Catholic School, Carmel Catholic High School and The University of Illinois receiving a bachelor's degree in Sociology. On December 28, 1972 Paul married the love of his life, Mary Patricia Granfield. Paul's career started working for his uncle's landscaping business, then moving on to HVAC work, followed by managing the local hardware store, eventually landing as building manager at Deerfield High School. He remained at Deerfield until his retirement in 2015. 

Paul was a true "jack of all trades". There was rarely a problem for which he could not find a solution and fix. This ranged from any small or large repair to providing sound advice and logical guidance in any situation. Paul was actively involved in the church and community, serving as a consistent sounding board and confidante to local government officers and anyone who reached out. He was unwavering in the respect he showed to every person he crossed paths with and demanded the same of others. Paul had a deep love for nature, America, Rolling Rock, and the Grateful Dead but above all, his family. His proudest role, where he shined brightest, was being a Nonno. He never missed a game, program, or event for his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan, their best friend, and their hero. 

Paul had a presence about him like no other. He had a rough exterior and a gruff delivery which was just a facade for his tender and compassionate heart. Paul was fiercely loyal, unabashedly honest, a devoted friend to all. Paul held everyone to a high standard while never failing to exceed that standard himself. 

Paul is survived by his soulmate of 51 years, Pat, children Erik (Sandee) and Amanda (Tony) Presutti, grandchildren Hope and Amelia Mocogni, Nic, Anthony and Carmine Presutti, brother Steve (Donna) Mocogni and sister Frida (Patrick) Leverick, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A wake will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, IL 60040. On Monday, January 15, 2024 a visitation will take place from 9:00 A.M. until time of funeral mass at 10:00 A.M. at Christ Our Hope Parish - Immaculate Conception Church 770 Deerfield Rd, Highland Park, IL 60035.
