Paul Szumski Obituary

Paul Donald Szumski, age 63, passed away on July 22, 2026. He was born on June 6, 1963, to Peter and Marion (Stepanek) Szumski.

Paul was the beloved husband of Kathleen Ann Nemec, whom he married on September 14, 1996, at Saint Tarcissius Church. Together they shared a loving marriage built on devotion, friendship, and mutual respect.

The youngest of three children, Paul grew up alongside his brother, Peter Szumski, and his sister, Cynthia Szumski. He attended Kinzie Elementary School before graduating from Kennedy High School with the Class of 1981. He continued his education at DeVry University Institute of Technology, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Paul built a successful career as a Computer Analyst Manager, earning the respect of colleagues through his technical expertise, professionalism, and dedication. Paul was an avid sportsman, he loved playing baseball and tennis. He was a baseball aficionado, he cheered on the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs up until Greg Maddox was traded, from that point he would watch the games but was not enthusiastic up until they won the World Series. He would enjoy Chicago Bears Football, Blackhawk Hockey, Bulls Basketball, Soccer and Golf. Paul also enjoy hard rock and roll and listened to various bands such as The Rolling Stones, Beatles, Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mack, Journey, Rush, ELO, Cars, Queen, AC/DC, Van Halen, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Dan Fogelberg, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Genesis, Def Leppard, Chicago, Pink Floyd, Toto, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, Styx, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Boston, Metallica and many more. Paul's claim to fame was he attended the Steve Dahl's Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park in 1979.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Kathleen Ann Nemec-Szumski; his brother, Peter (Carol) Szumski of La Grange Park; his sister, Cynthia Szumski of Chicago; his nephew, Peter (Elizabeth) Szumski; and two nieces, Jessica (Raleigh) Szumski-King and Jennifer Rodriguez. He also leaves behind extended family members, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Paul will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to his family. His memory will live on in the lives of those he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Memorial Mass celebrating Paul's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish, Saint Tarcissus Church, 6020 W. Ardmore Ave., Chicago, IL 60646. Family and friends are invited to attend as they gather to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
