Obituary

Pier Luigi Bernardi, age 86 of Highwood passed away suddenly Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at his home. He was born October 27, 1936 in Sant'Anna Pelago, Modena, Italy to the union of Amerigo and Marianna (Ori) Bernardi. On June 3, 1961 he married  Assunta Facchini and the couple immigrated to Highwood, Illinois in Spring of 1962 and then started their family.  Pier Luigi worked as a stone mason and worked for Twin Construction Company and Masonry by Fernando. He was a member of the Highwood Bocce Ball Club, Modenesa Society,  Saint James Church, and the former Giovane Italia Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. Pier Luigi and his wife Assunta took great pride in their home and family.

Beloved husband of 60 years to the late Assunta. Loving father of Diana (Tim) Joren of Highwood. Fond nonno to Erica Joren. Dear brother of the late Mario Bernardi (Enza Pedrini) of Carpi, Modena, Italy. Dear brother-in-law to Angelo (Gabriella) Facchini of Highwood and Livio (Ivana) Facchini of Highland Park. Fond zio and bis zio to many.

Visitation Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. until time of funeral mass 10:00 A.M. at Christ our Hope Parish, Saint James Campus, 134 North Avenue, Highwood. Rev. Thomas F. Baldonieri, celebrant. Entombment following at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Road, Libertyville.
