Robert Rush Obituary

Robert Bradford Rush, age 74, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Born on December 28, 1949, on the South Side of Chicago, he was the son of Charles Marshall, Sr. and Martha (Husted) Rush.

Raised in the Hyde Park neighborhood, Robert later moved with his family to Wilmette and settled in Lake Forest. He graduated from Shattuck Military Academy and College Preparatory School in Faribault, Minnesota, where he excelled in track. In 1972, he enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and dedicated over 20 years of service to his country, ultimately achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. Following his military career, Robert worked at Fort Sheridan in the civil service, specifically in the AMSA Shop Maintenance Department.

A simple man with a free spirit, Robert was known for his humor and easy-going nature. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was taking long walks in the forest preserves with his beloved dog, Mamma, working on old cars, or cheering for the Chicago Bears. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and had a fondness for classic films, with "Cool Hand Luke" being a particular favorite. An adventurous soul, Robert loved riding his bicycle and going on train adventures.

On February 24, 1996, he married Nancy Foote at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Northbrook, where he was a long-time member. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; daughter Cally Bell (Roger Hernandez) of Vernon Hills; grandson Michael Bell of Lake Villa; brother Charles Rush, Jr. of Waukegan; sister Barbara (Tom) Combellick of California; and three nephews, Charles Rush III, Edward Rush, and Todd Combellick. He will be dearly missed by his loyal companion, Mamma.
