Rogelio Cuyos, a 79 year old proud Filipino-American passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 5, 1946, in Getafe, Bohor, Philippines, the eldest child of a humble fisherman’s family. Though his parents were initially unable to send him to school, Rogelio’s determination and intellect earned him scholarships through high school and college. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science degree, major in English.
Rogelio firmly believed that “no one can take your education from you,” a philosophy that guided his life. He carried this conviction with unwavering dedication, ensuring not only that his own children received strong educations, but also supporting his siblings and a niece in their academic journeys.
He began his career as an English teacher in the Philippines before pursuing opportunities abroad. In Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, he started as a bellman at Hyatt Regency Hotels and, through hard work and perseverance, rose through the ranks. After retiring, he immigrated to the United States to be closer to family. Never one to stop learning, Rogelio developed a new passion for auto mechanics, always striving toward what he would call “the next dream.”
On May 15, 1973, he married Constancia Dahan Naldoza at St. Isidore the Farmer Parish, beginning a loving partnership that spanned 53 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Filomena Cuyos and Magno Abayan; and his brother, Rolando Abayan.
Rogelio is survived by his devoted wife, Constancia; his three daughters, Marifi Cuyos, Violy (Andy) Hesterly and Selene (Matthew) Jaeger; and his four grandchildren, Ken, Chad, Keane, and Karsyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Romulo (Connie) Abayan and Rebecca (late Roberto) Abellar; along with sister-in law Linda Abayan many nieces, nephews and relatives especially Mary Jean (Arnyl) Abarado.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026—his 80th birthday—from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with an evening service at 7:00 PM Rev. Hernan Cuevas, officiant at Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, Illinois. Interment will be private in the Philippines.
Rogelio will be remembered for his resilience, his love of learning, and his unwavering commitment to family. His legacy lives on in the lives he uplifted through education, perseverance, and love.
