Shirley I R Williams née Miller of Highwood Illinois succumbed to cancer 23 November 2023 in Highland Park IL. She was 76 years old at the time of her passing.
Born 10 March 1947 in the City of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, to Elwin and Iona (Scott) Miller, Shirley was as industrious at 18 as she was at 75. She cleaned and maintained her parents’ home and essentially raised most of her younger siblings. She helped others with difficulties in the neighborhood, like using part of her holiday allowance to purchase the materials for and then make curtains for an elderly woman nearby. In later life, she provided daycare for her grandchildren and many other children along Chicago’s north shore, as well as taking care giver positions for extended periods with several elderly patients.
Shirley immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and earned a certification to work as a nurse in Chicago. There she met her husband of 38 years, Lawrence Williams.
Shirley is survived by her sons Lawrence Junior, Daryl (Marie), and Brian (Melissa), her grandchildren Ethan, Morgan, and Ruben, her siblings Leila, Keith, Joann, and Leslie-Ann, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, her first born son Dale, her siblings Patsy, Victor, Morris, Reynold, and Glen, her nephew Shaun and her niece Annie.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 between 1 and 4 in the afternoon at the Seguin & Symonds Funeral Home, 858 Sheridan Road, Highwood, Illinois
