Zoila Morales, age 79, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, December 12, 2024, at her home in the presence of her beloved family. She was born on September 3, 1945, in Los Minos, Durango, Mexico, as the oldest child to the union of Filomo Montenegro and Celia Diaz Portillo. From a young age, Zoila exhibited the strength, kindness, and resilience that would define her throughout her life.

In 1973, on April 2, Zoila married the love of her life, Jorge Morales, in Chicago, Illinois. Together, they built a loving home and raised a family that became the center of her world. Zoila was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her family was her pride and joy. She was deeply committed to her loved ones and cherished the time spent together, whether celebrating special occasions or simply sharing the everyday moments that made life so meaningful.

Zoila was well known for her incredible cooking skills, especially her menudo and gesado, which became staples in her home. Her dishes were more than just meals—they were expressions of her love, care, and tradition. As a homemaker, she created a warm and welcoming environment where laughter and love flourished. Zoila’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, and she was beloved by many friends who were touched by her kindness, infectious sense of humor, and positive outlook on life.

A lover of simple pleasures, Zoila enjoyed spending her time shopping at thrift stores, finding little treasures that brought her happiness. Her joyful, optimistic nature and easygoing attitude made her a cherished companion to all who knew her.

Zoila was preceded in death by her son, George Morales, and by several of her siblings, including Apolinar Montenegro and Irma (late Joaquin) Cruz. She is survived by her devoted husband, Jorge Morales; two daughters, Patricia Morales and Sandra (Ruben) Salinas; 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; and five siblings: Javier Montenegro, Aurora Montenegro, and Leticia Montenegro. Zoila also leaves behind a dear friend and companion, Cirilo Gallegos, whose friendship and support meant the world to her.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Richard Midway Funeral Home, 5749 S. Archer Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 PM, with Rev. Brendon Curran as the celebrant. Interment will be private, in accordance with Zoila’s wishes.

Zoila will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

Zoila Morales, de 79 años, falleció pacíficamente la mañana del jueves 12 de diciembre de 2024, en su hogar, rodeada de su amada familia. Nació el 3 de septiembre de 1945 en Los Minos, Durango, México, como la hija mayor de la unión de Filomo Montenegro y Celia Díaz Portillo. Desde joven, Zoila demostró la fortaleza, bondad y resiliencia que la definirían a lo largo de su vida.

En 1973, el 2 de abril, Zoila se casó con el amor de su vida, Jorge Morales, en Chicago, Illinois. Juntos, construyeron un hogar lleno de amor y formaron una familia que se convirtió en el centro de su vida. Zoila fue una esposa, madre, abuela y bisabuela devota, y su familia fue su mayor orgullo y alegría. Estaba profundamente comprometida con sus seres queridos y valoraba el tiempo compartido con ellos, ya fuera celebrando ocasiones especiales o simplemente disfrutando de los momentos cotidianos que hacían la vida tan significativa.
